Teens acquire marketing skills by doing journalistic articles on local businesses featuring salon/spa/barber owners like you who are supporters of Lights Camera Read's mission of developing educational media literacy materials for personal empowerment and the empowerment of the economy. | ![]() |
The journalistic articles that are written by teens about your local salon/spa/barber businesses have a dual function. In addition to strengthening the economy by providing visibility to businesses to get new clients, they provide teens with a showcase opportunity through linking to the teens’ Lights Camera Read short story contest entry.
These short stories, based on a theme (this year's theme is "You Can't Borrow Honey from a Zombie because...") and written in conjunction with your local library, win points when the story reader through to localized review sites such as Review Me NYC where they can write testimonials for the teen. The more points a teen acquires through positive testimonials, the more he or she has a chance to win a Lights Camera Read Platinum Pias Award - an awards show originated by publicist, filmmaker, magician Yianni Stamas in conjunction with the Magic Neighbors Troupe.
The first Pia possible is a LCR regional semi finalist trophy, which if won gives the teen a shot at the winning the national Pia. If a teen wins the national Pia it means his or her story will be performed by the New York City Magic Neighbors Troupe which includes actors and performers who are national celebrities, role models and achievers. Businesses are also eligible regional and national Pia awards.
